edit 6 is a real-time, non-linear creative editorial system using dual stream uncompressed or compressed quality for independent editors/producers wanting to distribute via video or the Web. edit efficiently harnesses the power of the Windows® NT® platform and can be used as a standalone online editor or as an offline editing tool in a full-service facility.

Corporate and Multimedia:
Web streaming, DVDs, and corporate video projects are ideal for edit 6 with its new content creation, authoring, and streaming support. Video with rich audio, effects and animation all with direct final output for web streaming to target websites based on leading codecs, including Windows Media Player®, Real Networks®, and QuickTime®.

Post-Production:
Work in a real-time noncompressed environment, using edit 6 to create commercials, and promos, or as an advanced editing and effects system to create graphic intensive projects.

Broadcast:
edit 6 offers two real-time streams of broadcast-quality ITU601 video, 99 video tracks, up to 500 audio tracks, and exceptional graphic functionality making it ideal for documentaries, spots, promos, or station IDs.

Concurrent real-time effects
edit* has set the NLE standard with concurrent real-time effects. Editors rarely have to stop the editorial process to render, ensuring that more work is done - faster - at the maximum resolutions required for each job. edit* supports up to two streams of uncompressed images with an uncompressed graphic track. Other options of edit* support two real-time streams of 235kb images with two real-time streams of uncompressed graphics. To take advantage of these multiple streams of video and graphics for advance compositing edit* features an extensive keyframe channel editor that delivers precise control of all effects parameters. Each option of edit* has a different level of effects tailored to the specific needs of an editor (See edit* options data sheet for effects listing).

Real-time video and audio tracks
edit* features 99 video tracks for advanced compositing and 500 editable and 48 real-time tracks of audio. Real-time audio tracks offer editors the option to work in stereo and avoid having to mix down at the 8-track limit of most other NLE systems. This, along with audio rubberbanding, direct VO to timeline and audio track grouping for mixing, enables the powerful audio tools in edit* to accelerate the most demanding projects.

Best image quality both compressed and uncompressed
edit* supports the ITU-R 601 broadcast standard with the best compressed images available on any NLE, from a single file 5Kb images for offline to full field 500Kb compressed images. You can also mix and match resolutions within the same job and program. New for our 4.5 release, edit* also supports uncompressed image quality offering the highest quality noncompressed images. edit* is also DTV-ready with full 16:9 image capture and playback, serial digital I/O, composite, component and S-VHS. With edit* you can mix resolutions on any project and work at whatever image quality fits your production criteria. From 5Kb single field images for offline to uncompressed image quality for online.

Extended effects toolset
edit* offers integration with Discreet's paint* and effect* software. All of the bin elements from edit* can be opened and accessed directly from paint* and effect*. These elements can then be manipulated and rendered directly back into any edit* bin or job. This gives edit* the extended capabilities for visual effects, such as motion tracking and true 3D compositing, not found on any other desktop NLE.
