Panasonic unveils a lower-priced HDTV recorder ($95,000) in its AJ-HD2000, which can operate at 10-bit in either the 1035 or 1080 active line format. Combining the 1/2-inch cassette recording ability of its D-5 deck along with an HDTV processor, users get full production features in a single-piece VTR. The SMPTE 292M serial digital interface, meanwhile, allows transmission of both uncompressed digital video and audio over a single, coaxial cable.
