DigiSync was developed by RIM in 1991 and is used around the world in motion picture laboratories, negative film cutting and media post-production facilities. The DigiSync Film Keykode Reader reads, decodes, indexes and retrieves the optical information stored on the edge of motion picture film in the form of bar-coding.

In 1999 RIM was recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with a Technical Achievement Academy Award for the design and development of the DigiSync™ Film Keykode Reader.
